Richard Pilkington

Richard joined Cain in 2015 and heads the firm’s European real estate investment team, currently managing assets of circa $3 billion.

He brings over 30 years of real estate fund, investment and development experience and, since 2015, has built an experienced multi-disciplinary team, delivered Cain’s UK mixed-use, develop to core portfolio and expanded activities into Europe. Richard led the formation of Cain’s inaugural pan-European real estate fund which successfully closed in 2021. He is also a member of Cain International’s investment committee.

Prior to joining Cain International, Richard was a managing director at Oxford Properties, the real estate arm of the Ontario Municipal Employees’ Retirement System (OMERS), the multi-billion dollar Canadian pension plan. Richard was a founding member of the Oxford Properties European team and between 2010 and 2015 was responsible for investment and asset management activities, focused in London, including partnerships with British Land, Brookfield and The Crown Estate. Before that, Richard was European development director at MGPA, where he had responsibility for the fund’s development and asset management activities across Europe. He has also held senior positions with Lendlease, the Australian property group, and the international construction company Laing O’Rourke.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Science from Liverpool John Moores University and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) in 1992. He has undertaken leadership programmes at Harvard and Ivey Business Schools and holds a diploma from the Institute of Directors (IOD - UK) in company direction.
