First Look at RIOS-Designed Botanical Gardens at One Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills, CA  – October 3, 2025 – Cain, together with global design collective RIOS, has today shared the first look at the 4.5 acres of botanical gardens that will be open to the public at One Beverly Hills.

A defining feature of the 17.5-acre masterplan currently under construction, the gardens have guided the project from the start. They are envisioned as open spaces for residents, the Beverly Hills community, and visitors, with phased completion of One Beverly Hills expected to begin in 2027. The botanical gardens will establish a new civic green space at the city’s western gateway—a rare addition in Beverly Hills that will be open to the public for the first time in two decades.

One Beverly Hills will be anchored by Aman Beverly Hills — the brand’s first US West Coast property — featuring a 78-key all-suite hotel, two residential towers, and Aman Club. With 36 hotels worldwide, including 15 located close to or within UNESCO-protected sites, Aman has built a reputation for honoring cultural heritage and safeguarding natural settings. The botanical gardens at One Beverly Hills extend this mission, transforming historic grounds into a living landscape that both respects the site’s legacy and creates a restorative environment in harmony with nature.

Set within the historic grounds of the former Beverly Hills Nurseries which later became the Robinson-Mays department store, the gardens will feature two miles of walkways, trails, sitting areas, and water features surrounded by more than 200 species of native and adaptive plants, offering residents and visitors a place to connect with nature.

RIOS’ design draws on California’s extraordinary biodiversity and takes inspiration from the state’s distinct ecological zones — from shaded oak ridges to bright meadows and coastal bluffs. Species once cultivated by the historic nursery will be reintroduced alongside new plantings, creating an immersive sequence of sensory experiences. Visitors will encounter pollinator gardens alive with butterflies and hummingbirds, color-themed landscapes, and cascading water features, all designed to celebrate the resilience and beauty of Southern California’s environment.

The gardens are designed to transform how the community interacts with two of the city’s most iconic thoroughfares: Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards. Instead of functioning solely as corridors for traffic, their edges at One Beverly Hills will become green gateways — shaded by native plantings, softened by layered landscapes, and animated by pedestrian pathways. This reimagined frontage turns what was once a barrier into an inviting civic edge, encouraging people to walk and connect with Beverly Hills in a new way.

“The gardens at One Beverly Hills reflect our belief that community and wellbeing must be at the centre of urban design. From the beginning, our vision has been to create a place that feels part of the fabric of Beverly Hills while welcoming residents and visitors alike. By restoring these historic grounds, we are investing in a landscape that will endure, enrich the city’s cultural identity, and provide future generations with a space to gather, reflect, and connect with nature.” – Jonathan Goldstein, Co-Founder and CEO of Cain.

“One Beverly Hills Gardens is the connective tissue that weaves Beverly Hills into a larger story of community and place. This garden becomes part of an interconnected system within the urban fabric that gives our city room to breathe and gather, where people can find moments of calm and connection. We’re designing natural and cultural infrastructure for Angelenos and our visitors—spaces that capture the spirit of place.” – Mark Rios, Creative Director and Partner, FAIA, FASLA, RIOS.

“One Beverly Hills is set to become a vibrant destination, where visitors can experience the city’s horticultural legacy alongside innovative, climate-resilient landscapes. These gardens will join the iconic collection of public spaces that help define Beverly Hills and the region.” – Katherine Harvey, Creative Director and Partner, RIOS

The gardens are a key component of Cain’s commitment to responsible investment and community engagement. Designed with drought-tolerant and climate-resilient planting, the gardens will be irrigated entirely with recycled water and supported by forward-thinking infrastructure that will help reduce the urban heat island effect, conserve millions of gallons of water annually, and enhance biodiversity. Over $200 million has been invested in sustainability and resiliency, including fire-resistant materials, geothermal energy systems, and advanced stormwater management, making the gardens not only beautiful but built to withstand climate and fire challenges.

Set within the botanical gardens, One Beverly Hills will introduce up to 45 retail and dining concepts, designed to enhance the city’s shopping and lifestyle landscape. Blending fashion, dining, wellness, and cultural experiences with the natural setting, these spaces create a walkable environment where retail is not a standalone destination but part of the overall sense of place. The first preview of leases—Dolce&Gabbana, Los Mochis, and Casa Tua Cucina—showcases this vision, with future offerings set to extend Beverly Hills’ luxury ecosystem.

Master planned by Foster + Partners, the development will also include a full renovation of The Beverly Hilton, preserving its historic significance while integrating it into the broader project.
