Global Head of Real Estate Credit
John leads Cain’s global real estate credit team and is responsible for helping to build the firm’s franchise, primarily focusing on structured credit within the U.K., U.S. and Europe. John has over 36 years of experience in real estate credit lending and has been involved in underwriting $25 billion in credit transactions.
John’s previous roles include director in the global real estate and infrastructure businesses at Guggenheim Investments, the global asset management and investment advisory division of Guggenheim Partners. Before that, he was head of UK real estate finance at Landesbank Baden-Wurttemberg (LBBW), where he oversaw the bank’s re-entry into the U.K. lending market and helped arrange several large bilateral loans, a significant change from the bank’s previous strategy of pursuing largely participative relationships.
Prior to LBBW, he was a senior director at Santander UK where he helped create a new corporate real estate lending business with a book approaching £3 billion in commitments. John held positions at Deutsche Postbank London and Bank of Scotland before joining Santander UK.
John is a qualified Football Association (FA) coach and manages Ampthill Town Ladies, a football team in the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Women's Football League - Premier Division.
